Assistant Superintendent
It is the responsibility of an Assistant Superintendent to support Project Superintendents on assigned projects to complete the work on time, within budget, and to the highest quality while serving as Executive Construction’s field representative. In the performance of this role, the Assistant Superintendent will learn various trade disciplines and means and methods; protect and promote the interest of Executive Construction in all matters; and take action as required to execute the following duties. When proficiency is reached, the Assistant Superintendent may lead smaller projects.
REPORTS TO
The Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the Project Superintendent and Director of Field Operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate with and support the field team in various phases of the project. Assistant Superintendents are expected to become proficient in the following through training and experiences:
Preconstruction
- Support the constructability review process and the logistics planning process
- Attend pre-bid meetings and walk-throughs, as required
- Attend trade partner scope reviews prior to trade award
- Identify and proactively plan for safe practices on the project; communicate with trade partners regarding upcoming critical safety tasks
Scheduling
- Identify and track long lead items and material procurement
- Assist the Superintendent in the preparation and distribution of look-ahead schedules and focus schedules
- Assist the Superintendent in coordinating all required inspections, i.e., municipal and material
- Support the Superintendent in scheduling all trade and manpower activities for logical and efficient workflow
Job Management
- Assist in preparing and distributing detailed Daily Construction Reports (DCRs)
- Attend weekly trade partner coordination meetings and prepare detailed Meeting Minutes
- Coordinate to schedule Executive Construction direct labor
- Attend OAC meetings and provide input on schedule and field issues when appropriate
- Prepare and maintain emergency contact list
- Attend startup meetings with trade partners to review scope of work, schedule, and safety requirements
- Enforce all terms of the general contract and subcontract agreements
- Assist in QA / QC efforts, including inspecting and approving work product
- Have knowledge of the RFI process and recommend solutions
- Understand, maintain, and organize documents, i.e., drawings, specs, supplemental sketches, shop drawings, and approved submittals
- Assist with the processes for field-initiated changes
- Assist with project closeout, punch list, and record drawing processes
- Track jobsite tools and equipment
- Utilize Sway to create and publish weekly progress photos
Safety
- Properly use Executive Construction job signage and understand branding protocol
- Hold trade partner foremen responsible for safe practices within their scope
- Follow and support trades to ensure all Executive Construction / OSHA safety rules are followed
- Maintain current OSHA required certifications, i.e., 30-hour, CPR, and scaffold
- Maintain a clean work site
- Perform weekly safety inspections, document findings, and oversee timely completion of corrections
- Report same day accident / incident to Director of Field Operations, Safety Director, and Project Team
- Prepare and maintain Emergency Action Plan for specific projects
- Support project team as needed to address issues as they arise
- Track subcontractor insurance for access to buildings
- Host and present weekly toolbox talks
Training
- Participate in Executive Construction’s training program
- Dedicate time for ongoing constructability education and understanding all aspects of construction drawings
Business Development
- Enhance Executive Construction’s reputation with clients and partners through your performance and relationships
REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES
- Understand drawings and details used in design and construction
- Basic understanding of Project Management Software (e.g., Field Work Center, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Sway, and OneDrive/SharePoint, etc.)
- Basic skills in Microsoft 365 suite
- Basic presentation skills
- Clear verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to remain flexible and efficient in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to make intelligent and quick decisions, working well under pressure, and when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays
- Ability to effectively analyze and solve problems
- Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsites
- Must be on-call to address issues at the jobsite
- Present a professional appearance and demeanor at all times
- Develop communication skills and sensitivity to the needs of the entire team including Landlord
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or similar program AND a minimum of 1 year of field engineer experience OR
- Minimum of 3 years of construction industry experience
