field engineer

It is the responsibility of a Field Engineer to support Superintendents on assigned projects to obtain the skills required to successfully perform at an Assistant Superintendent level. In the performance of this role, the Field Engineer will learn the various workflows; policies and procedures; protect and promote the interest of Executive Construction in all matters; and take action as required to execute the following duties.

REPORTS TO

The Field Engineer reports directly to the Project Superintendent and Director of Field Operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborate with and support the field team in various phases of the project. Field Engineers are expected to become proficient in the following through training and experiences:

 

Scheduling

  • Identify and proactively plan for safe practices on the project; communicate with trade partners regarding upcoming critical safety tasks
  • Walk the job site and observe to learn project sequencing
  • Conduct daily manpower counts
  • Review scope sheets and crosscheck drawings
  • Assist the Superintendent in coordinating all required inspections, i.e., municipal and material
  • Shadow lead laborer and lead trade foreman

Job Management

  • Communicate with foreman to assist in preparing and distributing detailed Daily Construction Reports (DCRs)
  • Attend weekly trade partner coordination meetings and learn how to prepare detailed meeting minutes
  • Communicate with field operations for ECI manpower needs
  • Monitor the overall quality of the project to the highest standard
  • Collect and analyze project information to create status reports and recommend future actions
  • Regulate policies and procedures to maintain a safe and clean working environment
  • Coordinate deliveries with trade partners and facilitate with the building
  • Hold trades accountable for completing tasks on multi-week schedule
    • Create breakout schedules in MS Project for select activities (coordinate with Super)
  • Prepare off hours work requests to share with building and construction team
  • Assist in QA / QC efforts (alignment of devices, equipment fits in cabinets)
  • Update percentage complete in master schedule with coordination with the superintendent
  • Coordinate trade mobilizations with the superintendent
  • Active role in trade partner and orientation meets
  • Develop the skills to understand, maintain, and organize documents, i.e., drawings, specs, supplemental sketches, shop drawings, and approved submittals
  • Tracking of jobsite tools and equipment

Safety

  • Properly use Executive Construction job signage and understand branding protocol
  • Hold trade partner foremen responsible for safe practices within their scope
  • Follow all Executive Construction / OSHA safety rules
  • Obtain current OSHA required certifications (30-hour, CPR, scaffold, etc.)
  • Maintain a clean work site
  • Perform weekly safety inspections and document findings and make corrections
  • Report same day accident / incident to Director of Field Operations, Safety Director, and Project Team
  • Follow the Emergency Action Plan/SSSH plan
  • Track subcontractor insurance for access to buildings
  • Attend weekly toolbox talks

Training

  • Participate in Executive Construction’s training program
  • Dedicate time for ongoing constructability education and understanding all aspects of construction drawings

Business Development

  • Enhance Executive Construction’s reputation with clients and partners through your performance

REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES

  • Understand drawings and details used in design and construction
  • Ability to learn Project Management Software (e.g., Field Work Center, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Sway, and OneDrive/SharePoint, etc.)
  • Basic skills in Microsoft 365 suite
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to remain flexible and efficient in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to make intelligent and quick decisions, working well under pressure, and when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays
  • Ability to effectively analyze and solve problems
  • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsites
  • Must be on-call to address issues at the jobsite
  • Present a professional appearance and demeanor at all times
  • Develop communication skills and sensitivity to the needs of the entire team including Landlord

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or similar program or relative construction experience
  • Internship or similar experience in construction industry preferred but not required
